Thanksgiving Food Drive Benefitting Hands on Hartford

Help us help others this holiday season by participating in our annual non-perishable food drive! Now more than ever, our community needs your help. From November 5th-November 20th, we will be collecting donations for Hands on Hartford. Hands on Hartford’s Community Pantry provides groceries to over 1,100 households every month. As the holidays near and temperatures drop, they are reporting a sustained rise in need which is only expected to grow in upcoming weeks. With your help, Hands on Hartford can provide full, comforting meals and a sense of celebration for those who need it most. Collection boxes are in the lobby of Whole Health Wellness Center in Farmington, CT.

Community Pantry Shopping at Hands on Hartford

Hands on Hartford’s Community Pantry is a full service shopping model food pantry, allowing clients to choose food that will suit their families’ needs and tastes, minimizing food waste and maximizing nutritional value.

Groceries include non-perishable staples, along with bread, milk, eggs, fresh produce and frozen meat. All Connecticut residents are eligible to receive an emergency food bag. For more information about enrolling in their pantry, contact Hands on Hartford at (860) 728-3201.

 

SWAP Wellness System

Hands on Hartford’s Community Pantry utilizes SWAP, a spotlight nutrition ranking system designed to promote healthy food choices. They rank foods based on their saturated fat, sodium, and added sugar content and label green (choose often), yellow (choose sometimes), or red (choose rarely) for easy identification of healthy choices.

Hands on Hartford’s Community Pantry is open Monday through Thursday from 9:30am – 11:30am and 1:15pm – 5:00pm.

  • Fruit Cocktail
  • Baked Beans (Red, Pink, or Pinto)
  • Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • Stuffing Mix
  • Boxed Mashed Potatoes
  • Gravy Packets
  • Cake Mix & Frosting
  • Brownie & Cookie Mix
  • Canned Pie Filling

Essential Items Needed for the Community Pantry:

  • Cereal & Oatmeal
  • Pancake Mix & Syrup
  • Canned Fruit & Vegetables
  • Pasta & Pasta Sauce
  • Canned Beans
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly
  • Canned Meat
  • Canned Soup
  • Rice

About Hands on Hartford

Hands On Hartford is a social service nonprofit organization that serves Hartford’s most economically challenged residents in the areas of food, housing, and health. They are an affiliate of the Points of Light Global Network, which includes volunteer-mobilizing organizations located in nearly 40 countries around the world.
