The deep freeze is on! Its weeks like these that make us want to curl up with a cozy blanket beside the fire with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and watch the day pass.  But before you decide to reach for that cup of cocoa think about trying an herbal tea instead.  Herbal teas have great benefits that will not only improve your health and well-being but will also warm you up on a cold January day. (Even if you are unable to sit next to the fire) Some great herbal teas to explore are:

Chamomile– Known for its soothing and relaxing qualities this herb also has properties that can calm digestion.

Mint- With its fresh and invigorating flavor it can awaken the mind and make us more alert, this tea is great for a quick pick-me-up during the afternoon.  Mint also has qualities that help stomach disorders like IBS.

Green – Full of anti-oxidants green tea has been found to have protective properties against cellular damage.  Green tea is also known to boost metabolism and can help aid in weight loss.

Ginger- known for its warm and spicy properties ginger tea can help boost circulation and aid in digestion (most notably it decreases nausea)

Lavender– Also known for its soothing and relaxing qualities, this floral aromatic tea will help you drift off to sleep.

Yerba Mate– With its bold flavor this tea is a favorite among coffee drinkers.  Yerba Mate contains vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants as well as the stimulants xanthine, theobromine, and theophylline. (These stimulants are said to have less side effects than caffeine) This tea can also help to relieve constipation.
